Ballroom Dancing

Ballroom dancing may seem complicated at first.  But really learning it can be very easy and increase your social skills at the same time.

I have written a little about this on my blog called Ians Writers Corner.

Art Prints

Art prints are best in Cavas Satin in my opinion.  They look more real as if they truly were cavas art.  They can decorate your home and make it feel comfortable.  I have a short video on this subject on YouTube called Art Prints.

Five Element Acupuncture: Complete Medicine for Your Body, Mind, and Spirit

I came across this article at Holistic Junction and am reprinting it with the authors permission cause its just that good.

Shams T. Deckter, L.Ac. Five element acupuncture is the classical method of acupuncture handed down orally from master to student, from antiquity. Its application reflects the tradition of acupuncture as practiced for the 3,000 years before Communism's advent in China.

Five element acupuncture supports you in being present and experiencing the fullness of life.

Five element acupuncture supports you in being more present by healing the root of your current condition(s) and preventing new conditions from forming. This is accomplished through reinforcing Divine qualities that already exist within you, such as love, compassion, trust, and hope, while letting go of belief systems and wounds that do not serve you. As treatment progresses, physical, emotional, and spiritual conditions generally resolve, and your symptoms naturally heal. It's amazing to see how people change when they receive this level of care - they become the people they were born to be.

Healing the Root
Five element acupuncture identifies the root of physical, mental, and emotional conditions and heals it through selecting the right acupuncture points for you. Because you are a unique person - there has never been anyone exactly like you - all treatments are tailored to address your specific situation.

Ancient Chinese masters observed an all-encompassing, unified universal force. They named this force Tao, and used it as a guide for living. Chinese sages saw all phenomena as a differentiation of the Tao, including the five elements.

The five elements are the five primary energetics that form the basis of physical life, creating the seasons and nature's environmental relationships. As you know, imbalance in any part of an ecosystem will eventually affect the whole. In this same way, an imbalance in one element, if left untreated, may progress and eventually have a negative impact on one or more of the other elements. Similarly, when one part of an ecosystem begins to heal, it will support the healing of the whole. In this way, five element acupuncture balances your inner ecosystem.

The ancient masters observed that we each have a strong affinity with one of the five elements from birth. We resonate primarily with one element, continuously living in its energetic world. The element you resonate with most is called your constitutional factor (c.f.). Five element acupuncture heals the root of illness by treating your c.f.

Five element acupuncture balances your inner ecosystem, to heal current conditions and to prevent new ones by treating your constitutional factor (c.f.)

Your c.f. is the source of your greatest gifts and talents. The strengths of your c.f. are the root of your most prominent natural strengths. Similarly, the ways in which that element becomes imbalanced are the ways in which you become imbalanced, as well.

Your c.f. defines your greatest physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual challenges, and at the same time, it is the path through them to true healing and self-knowledge. Through treating the c.f., the five element acupuncturist brings healing to the core of your physical, emotional, mental, and spiritual life. Classically, it is considered the highest form of medicine, because it supports you in realizing your full potential.

Preventative Care
Five element acupuncture identifies and treats the subtle energetic imbalances that can lead to future illness, making it ideal for preventative care and health maintenance. If you are relatively healthy, receiving five element acupuncture on a regular basis can help prevent illness, when combined with a healthy diet and lifestyle.

Five element acupuncture heightens self-awareness. As treatment progresses you will begin to observe your energetic cycles and patterns, empowering you to make the decisions that best serve your health.

The Five Elements
The water element is the energy of winter, and it empowers you with the wisdom to utilize your resources sagaciously. Your water element is the source of your will to manifest your destiny, and it is the seed of your life's potential. It gives you the capacity to sink into the depth of silence, and the cleverness needed to adapt and survive.

The wood element is the energy of spring, and it imparts the vision, perspective, and long range planning needed to accomplish your life goals. Your wood element gives you growth, creativity, and flexibility for forward movement and healing. It enables you to fully take up your space.

The fire element is the energy of summer, and it helps your spirit to fully blossom into maturity. Your fire element provides warmth and safety for giving and receiving love, and it helps you feel connected to people around you. It gives you the capacity for joy in relationship.

The earth element is the energy of late summer, and it houses your intention. Your earth element enables you to nurture, mother, and support others for the sake of world service. It helps you to feel the pain and suffering of others with compassion.

The metal element is the energy of autumn, and it helps you relinquish attachments. Your metal element discerns the level of purity in your environment, and determines your standards of quality. It enables you to feel grief when there is a loss, and to let go of what has gone.

Five Element Acupuncture in Action
Case Study: Janice1, age 54, originally came to treatment for help with very high blood pressure (at times 180/125). She also complained of obesity, hot flashes, lower back pain, and a constantly stuffy nose which inhibited her sense of smell. When I examined her I found that her lower legs had edema. Her flesh was so full of fluid that when I pressed her, it left an impression for a minute or two.

Five element medicine provides a unique understanding on how disease can develop and progress. In health, the five elements feed and provide boundaries for one another. In Janice's case, the earth element was too weak to contain the water element, causing the earth element to become bogged down with too much water. This caused the obesity, leg edema, and stuffy nose. Water was weakened by the lack of containment it received from earth, hence the low back pain. The water and earth elements were too low and could not root the wood element, which allowed the high blood pressure to develop.

Explanation of the Elemental Dynamics
In health, the earth element extends its influence to the water element, providing borders and containment. Janice's earth element was weaker than the ideal, which can result from a number of different causes, including: irregular eating, overeating, physical or mental overwork, lack of physical or mental exercise, or malnourishment (especially a lack of protein).

Once weakened, Janice's earth element became overly moist as a result of her water element overflowing its boundaries. In nature we see this all of the time. If a riverbank (earth element) is too weak to contain the water of the river (water element), the water overflows into the earth around it, creating muddy soil. This is exactly what happened with Janice.

Overflowing the banks weakens the water element over time - it disperses its power and strength. Additionally, a weak earth element may begin drawing upon the water element to supplement its weakness, which further depletes the water element.

Among other things, the water element is responsible for providing strength to the lower back, legs, and feet. Because it was weakened, Janice's back began to hurt.

In health, the water element roots the wood element's naturally rising energy, just as a tree is rooted while it grows high into the sky. Because Janice's water element didn't harness the rising of her wood element, she developed high blood pressure and hot flashes.

After determining that Janice was an earth c.f., I treated her earth element for 3 years, focusing specifically on the relationship between the earth and water elements.

Within two months of beginning acupuncture treatment, Janice's blood pressure had gone down 30 points. Within one year her blood pressure averaged 130/85, and her hot flashes were gone. After another year she had lost 40 pounds. At the end of treatment her stuffy nose and sense of smell were much improved (a 4 out of 10, where 10 is the worst it's ever been and 1 is a complete cure).

Janice also had many emotional breakthroughs during our time together. She worked through issues around growing older, fear of death, anger at her mother, and deep loneliness.

Five element acupuncture can provide complete healing for long-term, chronic situations, as well as excellent preventative care and health maintenance. A 65-year old client who is having wonderful results from acupuncture says, "I really wish I had known about this sooner. It could have prevented so many of the problems I am dealing with today."

Shams T. Deckter, L.Ac. holds a Master's degree in five element acupuncture, and has been practicing acupuncture for seven years. Shams is also certified in Chinese herbal medicine, shiatsu massage, and energy work. Shams currently practices at 2080 Prince Avenue, Athens, Georgia.
